Proprietary Decarbonization and 100% Recycled Materials Drive a Zero-Waste Blueprint
As the 2050 net-zero deadline approaches, green transformation in steelmaking is critical. Circular economy leaders Taiwan Steel Union Co., Ltd. (TSU, TWSE: 6581) and subsidiary Taiwan Steel Resources Co., Ltd. (TSR) are showcasing their advanced smelting solutions at Net-Zero Taiwan 2026. The exhibit highlights how industrial waste is upcycled into low-carbon, 100% recycled materials to drive industries toward true zero waste.
Decarbonization: 100% Recycled Zinc Oxide Earns UL 2809 & UL 2799 Validations
TSU is spotlighting its high-temperature rotary kiln smelting technology, which upcycles electric arc furnace (EAF) dust, zinc-bearing materials, and washed fly ash into premium recycled zinc oxide. Its crude zinc oxide earned UL 2809 Recycled Content Validation, verifying that 100% of the zinc content is recovered from waste streams.
In September, TSU also achieved UL 2799 Zero Waste to Landfill Platinum validation—the highest level in the standard. Serving clients across the steel, electroplating, chemical, waste management, and municipal incineration sectors, TSU’s full-recycling model eliminates disposal liabilities and delivers zero-landfill results, boosting partners’ ESG ratings and competitiveness.
Green Building Materials: High-Pressure Steam Converts Slag into Low-Carbon Aggregates
Low-carbon materials are essential for sustainable cities. Founded in 2016 to reduce reliance on virgin quarry aggregates, TSR converts EAF slag into high-value green building products.
Powered by its world-first 21 kgf/cm² saturated steam stabilization technology, TSR solves expansion issues common in reducing slag and spent refractories, yielding recycled aggregates as stable as natural stone. These materials are deployed in industrial pavements, controlled low-strength materials (CLSM), and precast concrete (PC). By upcycling industrial wastes—including R-1210 (reducing slag), R-1207 (rotary kiln slag), D-1199 (co-combustion ash), and D-0501 (spent refractories)—TSR diverts industrial waste while curbing emissions and ecological disruption from raw resource extraction.
Powering a Net-Zero Future
The joint exhibit underscores TSU and TSR’s shared vision: driving resource circularity through technical innovation. By upcycling industrial waste, both companies reinforce green supply chains across the steel and construction sectors, providing durable momentum for Taiwan’s net-zero transition.
