Deepening Taiwan-Australia Cross-Border Cooperation: Taiwan Steel Union President Tsung-Lin Hsieh Shares Insights on Waste Circulation and Dual-Axis Transformation at the University of Sydney

On September 28, 2026, the “Resource Recycling Policy and Technology Exchange Forum” was held at the University of Sydney, Australia, organized by the “2026 Taiwan-Australia Resource Circulation and Asia-Pacific Circular Economy Hotspot Exchange” delegation—jointly formed by the Resource Circulation Administration of the Ministry of Environment and the Taiwan Resource Circulation Industry Promotion Association. Tsung-Lin Hsieh, President of leading domestic circular economy enterprise Taiwan Steel Union Co., Ltd., was invited to attend and deliver a featured presentation.

The forum centered on in-depth dialogue between Taiwan and Australia regarding resource circulation policies and sustainable technologies. In his speech, titled “Sharing Experiences in Dual-Axis Transformation: Smart and Low-Carbon Practices in Taiwan’s EAF Dust Resource Recovery Facility,” President Hsieh detailed how by-products generated by Taiwan’s electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmakers are recovered to drive a 100% circular economy. He also shared Taiwan Steel Union’s achievements in decarbonization and intelligent transformation, demonstrating the practical application of “urban mining” and closed-loop resource circulation.

Leveraging the international platform of the University of Sydney, the exchange not only highlighted Taiwan’s technological resilience in transforming steel industry by-products into valuable resources, but also paved the way for substantive bilateral cooperation in regional resource circulation networks and carbon reduction technologies, moving forward together toward net-zero sustainability goals.
